Artesia City Council To Vote On Significant Payraises

The Artesia city council is expected to take up a vote Tuesday on whether or not to give payraises to themselves. There have been two public hearings on the subject. The payraises would be significant. The mayor’s salary would more than double, from 96-hundred dollars a year to 25-thousand. The mayor pro tem would earn 15-thousand dollars, up from 8-thousand. Each city council member salary would go from 72-hundred dollars anually to 12-500. And municipal judges would see their salary increased from 44-thousand dollars to 65 thousand dollars per year.
